The CGTA ™ Designation

CGTA™ Certification Overview

Become a CGTA™!

The CGTA™ certification program was designed for professionals who specialize, or wish to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to perform Enterprise Sustainability, Energy Technology, Smart Grid and Green Information Technology project installation, security, and administration audits and advisory services.

What do CGTAs do?

Certified Green Technology Auditors have a wide range of skills and leverage knowledge from several disciplines.  This includes Information Technology, Computer Network Security, Carbon Emissions Accounting and Controls, Energy Technology Infrastructure and Software Systems, Enterprise Sustainability, Environmental Risk Management, Corporate Auditing Principles and Techniques, Regulatory Compliance Monitoring, and Business Management.

CGTAs perform reviews of Carbon Accounting Software controls and participate in the installation or integration of new energy technology systems, ensuring that adequate controls are in place prior to and following implementation.

CGTAs support managements’ need to comply with existing and anticipated legislative requirements regarding the integrity of energy technology systems infrastructure, carbon emissions software and systems controls, and security.  This include mandatory critical infrastructure protection (CIP) reliability standards, which some governments have established to ensure sound policies, plan and procedures are in place to safeguard physical and electronic assets, training of personnel, incident reporting, and maintaining preparedness for recovering from a cyber attack of energy systems infrastructure or facilities.

CGTAs both audit and sign-off on management assertions regarding compliance on such requirements and advice audit committees and corporate boards on matters relating to enterprise sustainability, energy technology systems infrastructure and application systems controls, including Green IT.

Becoming Certified

Acquiring the CGTA™ designation requires passing a rigorous comprehensive three hour examination, which will be provided in a 300 questions multiple choice format.  The examination is designed to assess minimum competency in Energy Technology and Sustainability risk, compliance, control and audit matters.

Because the program is being newly introduced to the global business community, qualified audit and compliance professionals with proven experience in these areas will be able to grandfather into the program and become certified without having to sit for the CGTA™ examination.

The CGTA™ Grandfathering program will be offered only for a limited time (date t.b.a), after which candidates must sit for The ACGTA's Certified Green Technology Auditor comprehensive examination in order to become CGTA™ Certified.

The CGTA™ Registration Fee is $595 US.  Examinations will be handled internationally through a third party provider.

In order to receive the CGTA™ certificate and use or display the CGTA™ credential, an individual must maintain an active membership with The ACGTA.  To find out about membership, or register to become a member, click on the following link.
